Well, i have a sister who has down syndrom, she loved school untill she got into high school, then she started feeling out of place.
So i decided when i was in high school that i wanted to be a special ed teacher for highschool students, to try and make that experience better for at least those i can reach.

To be quite honest, I never planned on going into special education... It just sort of happened. In fact, once I decided to be a teacher, I was on a straight course to teaching high school English with hopes of coaching the swim team. And, in fact, I ended up doing both of these things. I wish I could say that I moved on to teach special education because I did not find my high school teaching job fully rewarding and I just needed something more...

But that is totally not true. I actually loved teaching high school! But I ended up moving, I could not find a good high school teaching job, and a job teaching special education practically fell into my lap.

That being said, I believe that I have never been more blessed than I am now. I do sometimes miss teaching high school, but i would not give up my current job for the world!

Perhaps, all along, my life was, indeed, guiding me on a course to becoming a special ed teacher.

My son has a disability. I went to college to learn how I could help him. I love my job as a teacher. I am looking for more ways to teach the objectives without worksheets..
